SOUTH KINGSTOWN – When it needed it most, the University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team pulled another rabbit out of a hat.
Off two straight losses and four defeats in their last five games, the Rams rediscovered their flair for the dramatic to nab a crucial win. A four-point play by Jamarques Lawrence with 2.4 seconds remaining sent the Rams to a 68-64 victory over St. Bonaventure on Wednesday night at the Ryan Center.
“We’ve had some resilient moments. Tonight was one of them and it was the biggest moment,” URI head coach Archie Miller said. “Game 24, you need it. You’re at home. You can’t go three in a row. The game-winning shot by Lawrence was part of a career-high 20-point night. David Green chipped in 18 points and Sebastian Thomas shook off a scoreless first half to finish with 15 points and seven assists. David Fuchs had seven points and 10 rebounds.
Here are three takeaways from the victory.
