ACC men’s basketball power rankings: Duke, Cooper Flagg still on top after Clemson loss

The dream of an undefeated run through conference play is officially dead for Duke men’s basketball. It’s about the only thing that hasn’t been going well for the Blue Devils over the past two months

With Jon Scheyer’s team retaining its perch on top, here’s where the ACC’s 18 programs stand:

ACC basketball power rankings

1. Duke

Last week: 1

In Duke’s loss to Clemson, we learned the only thing that can apparently stop Cooper Flagg is a wet spot on the court.

2. Louisville

Last week: 2

Louisville and Clemson have nearly identical overall and conference records and are close to each other in KenPom and NET rankings. But Pat Kelsey’s squad gets the edge for No. 2, by virtue of a double-digit head-to-head victory on Jan. 7.

3. Clemson

Last week: 3

The Duke win stands as a signature accomplishment on Clemson’s resume, which includes victories against Kentucky and North Carolina.

4. SMU

Last week: 5

SMU still doesn’t have a Quad One win, but a 20-point shellacking of Pitt in a matchup of NCAA Tournament bubble teams isn’t a bad consolation prize.

5. Wake Forest

Last week: 4

If Wake Forest falls on the wrong side of the bubble, it can look back to a blown 16-point lead with 8:05 remaining in a 72-70 loss to Florida State Wednesday as one of several reasons why.

6. Stanford

Last week: 7

Stanford’s overall record is strong, but it has lost three of its past four.

7. North Carolina

Last week: 8

A one-point home win against Pitt has spared UNC a four-game losing streak. The path to the NCAA Tournament is getting dangerously narrow.

8. Florida State

Last week: 9

Malique Ewin is performing like an all-conference player, with double-doubles in eight of FSU’s past 10 games.

9. Pitt

Last week: 6
