Analyst tabs Sebastian Rancik as the possible ‘future’ of Colorado men’s basketball

While many of his teammates struggled against Kansas’ superior talent on Tuesday evening, Sebastian Rancik was an undeniable bright spot in Colorado men’s basketball’s 13th straight loss to begin Big 12 play.

The Jayhawks’ raucous Allen Fieldhouse crowd had little impact on Rancik, as the true freshman forward poured in a career-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting. He also finished one rebounded short of a double-double while recording two assists, one steal and a block.

Ralphie Report’s Ryland Scholes was also left impressed by Ranick’s effort against the Jayhawks, writing that Colorado could have a budding face of the program. Here’s what Scholes wrote on Ranick’s encouraging night in Lawrence:

In a game where Kansas displayed All-American talent on the floor, Colorado’s Rancik was the best player in Allen Fieldhouse on Tuesday. Rancik, a true freshman from Slovakia, showcased why he looks like the future of the Buffaloes’ program by scoring 19 points and snagging nine boards, along with a block and steal for good measure.

On the season, Ranick is averaging 5.7 points and 2.5 rebounds for a Buffs team that hasn’t enjoyed the taste of victory since mid-December. Still, he and fellow underclassman Bangot Dak are reason to be optimistic about Colorado’s future.
