Which teams Michigan State coach Tom Izzo beat the most on road to Big Ten wins record

Over 30 seasons in East Lansing, Tom Izzo’s Michigan State basketball teams have come out victorious in a Big Ten showdown 353 times. On Tuesday, Izzo and Co. will attempt to make that number 354, and make history along the way.

Izzo has a chance to set the record for most conference wins in Big Ten history on Tuesday night when Michigan State meets Indiana (9 p.m., Peacock). Ironically, he will be trying to surpass legendary Hoosiers coach Bob Knight, who held the record at 353 since he left Indiana.

Izzo will simultaneously try to set the record as his team jockeys for position at the top of the Big Ten standings entering the back half of the conference regular-season schedule. Izzo is now 726-299 overall as head coach, just outside of the top 20 of the winningest coaches ever, with a 353-172 in conference games.

Izzo has already beaten Indiana 29 times over the last decade and with a win Tuesday, the Hoosiers would become one of seven teams Michigan State has bested 30 times or more under Izzo. However, the Hoosiers are not even inside the top five of Big Ten teams MSU has beat the most to reach this record.

Here’s a look at the five opponents MSU has topped the most under Izzo along with the five opponents who have avoided the defeats.

T-1: Minnesota, 38

Under Izzo, Michigan State has beaten Minnesota 38 times in 48 meetings for a 38-10 record since the start of the 1995 season. MSU has won 12 of the last 15 meetings since 2010, including an active two-game win streak dating back to last season. MSU won six straight over the Gophers from 1998-2001 and 11 straight from 2007-2012. The only time MSU lost multiple times in a row to Minnesota under Izzo was three straight in 1996-97 in three of the first four matchups.

T-1: Penn State, 38
