No. 3 Florida basketball’s NCAA Tournament resume for March Madness: Feb. 11

Florida basketball is playing its way into a potential No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The No. 3 Florida Gators (20-3, 7-3 SEC) bolstered their NCAA Tournament resume with two more wins last week, including a 90-81 upset at No. 1 Auburn last Saturday.

“We proved on Saturday what our ceiling is,” Florida basketball coach Todd Golden said. “I think it’s pretty clear that the win that we got on Saturday is the best win that anybody has in college basketball up to this point this year. And our efficiency metrics and all the data on us speaks pretty highly.”

Florida played high-level offense in its wins over Vanderbilt and Auburn last week, averaging 88.0 points while posting an assist-to-turnover ratio of 42-to-22 and shooting 42.6% (23-54) from 3-point range.

“We’re trending,” Golden said. “I think we’re doing a really good job. We’re not perfect, we have plenty of areas to grow. I think the biggest challenge with our schedule the rest of the way is not allowing ourselves to get too high or too low, depending on the result.”

How Florida basketball fared last week:

No. 6 Florida 86, Vanderbilt 75: Fueled by a 51-point second half, Florida pulled away late to beat the Commodores at the O’Connell Center last Tuesday. Senior guard Will Richard led the way with 21 points with sophomore forward Alex Condon adding 19 points and nine rebounds.

No. 6 Florida 90, No. 1 Auburn 81: Florida pulled off its first win against a No. 1 team on the road in school history, knocking off the Tigers in Auburn, Ala., last Saturday. Senior point guard Walter Clayton Jr. had 19 points and a career-high nine assists to lead UF, while Condon posted his fifth career double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds).
