After a slow start to its first season in the SEC, the Texas Longhorns basketball team found some rhythm. After starting conference play 0-3, UT went 4-2 over its next six games. But that momentum was halted this week. Texas lost to Vanderbilt in Nashville and Arkansas at Moody Center.
Sitting 11th in the SEC, the Longhorns have been on or close to the bubble for much of the college basketball season. As March Madness approaches, every win will be vital to making the NCAA Tournament field. Despite the rough week, USA TODAY Sports’ weekly “Bracketology” by Eddie Timanus has the Longhorns safely in the tourney field. But that could change if the Horns don’t finish the season strong.
Currently projected as a No. 11 seed in the Midwest Region, this won’t be an easy week for the Longhorns. Texas will face No. 2 Alabama and No. 15 Kentucky over the next few days. The good news is, both games are at home in Moody.
There is a good chance UT could have another 0-2 week which could put the Horns on the bubble or even out of the projected field. Texas will have five remaining games after playing the Wildcats to make its case to the NCAA selection committee.
