Where Wisconsin basketball ranks in AP Poll Top 25 following 2-0 week

Wisconsin basketball (19-5, 9-4 Big Ten) moved up five spots to No. 16 in the latest AP Poll on Monday. The move follows the team’s 2-0 week against a pair of conference opponents.

Greg Gard’s group opened the week with a statement win over a struggling Indiana Hoosiers team, a game in which six Badgers scored at least eight points. Wisconsin then secured an impressive road win over the Iowa Hawkeyes, courtesy of 22 points from star wing John Tonje and 19 tallies from ascending sophomore guard John Blackwell.

Wisconsin’s updated AP ranking corresponds with its position in several high-profile rating metrics. The team has jumped all the way to No. 12 in KenPom, No. 21 in the ESPN BPI, No. 15 in the NCAA NET and No. 15 in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll. The Badgers have collected seven Quad 1 wins on the season and are a combined 12-5 in Quad 1 and Quad 2 action.

Wisconsin is one of five Big Ten teams in the latest AP Top 25. It sits behind only Purdue (No. 7) and Michigan State (No. 11), and is now positioned ahead of Michigan (No. 20) and Maryland (No. 25). Illinois, which sat at No. 23 a week ago, fell out of the rankings into the ‘receiving votes’ section alongside UCLA.
