The Florida Gators recorded the best win of the men’s college basketball season so far on Saturday, upsetting the top-ranked Auburn Tigers and thus earning three first-place votes in the latest AP Top 25 Poll. Florida is now tied with Duke for a share of the No. 3 spot in the Week 14 update.
Florida’s No. 3 ranking is a program high in the AP Top 25 since the 2013-14 season when the Orange and Blue finished the year at No. 1
Auburn remains on top of the college basketball world for now, but Alabama has closed the gap between No. 1 and No. 2 to just nine poll points. The Tigers earned 34 first-place votes, the Crimson Tide got 23 and the Tennessee Volunteers received one.
The Gators and Duke Blue Devils both earned 1,342 poll points, leading the Volunteers by 27 points and trailing the Crimson Tide by 128 points.
SEC schools in Coaches Poll top 25
Nine SEC programs are ranked inside the top 25 this week. In addition to the four top-5 programs mentioned above, Texas A&M checks in at No. 8, Kentucky is No. 15, Ole Miss is No. 19, Missouri is No. 21 and Mississippi State rounds out the group at No. 22.
No other SEC teams earned votes this week, but that’s still half the conference inside the top 25. The Big Ten has the second-most ranked teams of any conference with five.
