Iowa basketball fell on Saturday afternoon inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena against one of its rivals in the Wisconsin Badgers, 74-63.
With this latest loss, the Iowa Hawkeyes sunk to 13-10 (4-8 Big Ten). Iowa has now lost six of its past seven. Wisconsin (19-5, 9-4 Big Ten) also completed a season sweep of Iowa with the win.
Though the Badgers didn’t knock down the record-setting number of 3-pointers they did in round one versus Iowa, No. 19 Wisconsin still managed to connect on 12 from downtown.
As Iowa continues its descent toward the bottom of the Big Ten standings, here’s some day after thoughts from the Hawkeyes’ setback.

Iowa got off to a solid start in this contest. The Hawkeyes led 39-37 at halftime and actually held the lead in the game for longer than Wisconsin did.
It was back-and-forth for most of the afternoon until it mattered the most. Iowa took its final lead of the contest on a driving layup from graduate guard Drew Thelwell that put the Hawkeyes in front 59-58 with 7:36 remaining.
From that point forward, Wisconsin closed on a 16-4 run. Iowa connected on just one of its final 10 field goal attempts as the Badgers put the clamps down on the Hawkeyes’ offense late. Iowa also had a pair of turnovers in the game’s final six minutes.
Payton Sandfort struggled

It’s been said before this season, but Iowa just isn’t built to win a lot of games if senior forward Payton Sandfort isn’t shooting well and scoring for this team.
The 6-foot-8 senior finished with just seven points on 2-of-11 shooting, including 1-of-7 from 3-point range. Sandfort has failed to reach double figures in just three Big Ten games thus far this season. Two of those outings in Big Ten play for the Waukee, Iowa, product have come against the Badgers.
Sandfort scored just two points at Wisconsin earlier this season and shot 1-of-9 from the field and 0-for-5 from 3-point distance on Jan. 3 in the two teams’ first meeting.
