Indiana basketball is in the middle of a complicated, frustrating and confusing stretch, but the games continue. Michigan visits the Hoosiers on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025.
The Hoosiers (14-9, 5-7 Big Ten) have been disconnected on the court, and questions about coach Mike Woodson’s future are rampant. IU has lost six of its last seven games as it has fallen into 10th place in the conference standings. Mackenzie Mgbako has led the Hoosiers in scoring the last four games (all losses), averaging 19.0 points. Oumar Ballo leads the conference in rebounding (10.4 in Big Ten games) and field goal percentage (63.4).
The No. 22 Wolverines (17-5, 9-2) have won three straight games and are tied with Michigan State for second in the league, one-half game behind Purdue. Michigan relies heavily on its starting lineup, all averaging in double figures, and sixth man Will Tschetter (7.0 points, 40.0% 3-point shooting). Seven-footers Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf make inside play difficult for opponents.
Give Woodson’s situation, the arrival of Michigan coach Dusty May — an IU student manager under Bob Knight and a longtime Hoosiers fan — makes the matchup more intriguing, and awkward.
