BLOOMINGTON — Indiana basketball coach Mike Woodson is considering retirement at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told The Herald-Times that Woodson is in active discussions about his future, but no final decision has been made.

The Hoosiers have failed to live up to the preseason hype that came with signing the No. 2-ranked transfer class (per 247 Sports) in the country. They have lost four straight games and six of their last seven to fall below .500 in the Big Ten.
They have suffered a series of lopsided defeats (six by double digits) this season, including a 25-point loss to Illinois on Jan. 14 that was the second-worst home loss in program history.
While Woodson led his alma mater to the NCAA Tournament in each of his first two seasons — the program reached the second round in 2023 — he’s fallen short of his stated goal of hanging another banner at Assembly Hall.
The turning point for Woodson came after Trayce Jackson-Davis and Jalen Hood-Schifino left for the NBA.
He reeled in plenty of talent including the No. 2 ranked transfer in 2023 (Kel’el Ware) and 2024 (Oumar Ballo) along with the program’s highest-rated preps recruit (Mackenzie Mgbako) since 2018, but his recent teams failed to play with any kind of consistency.
Woodson has two years remaining on the amended contract he signed in 2023.
The revised deal bolstered his buyout protection while increasing his salary from $3 million to $4.2 million, but didn’t add any years to the six-year contract he agreed to back in 2021 to become the program’s 30th head coach.
