Is Colorado men’s basketball doomed to finish winless in conference play?

Finishing winless in Big 12 Conference play has become an unfortunate possibility for the Colorado Buffaloes men’s basketball team.

After falling to Utah on Wednesday evening, the Buffs stand 0-11 in the Big 12 with nine regular season conference games remaining. That may seem like ample opportunity for the Buffs to get lucky at least once, but their remaining schedule won’t make things easy. Five of Colorado’s nine remaining games are against ranked opponents, including two meetings with No. 16 Kansas.

Colorado’s best chance at breaking the longest losing streak in head coach Tad Boyle’s 15 years at the helm comes on Feb. 15 against UCF (13-9, 4-7 Big 12). The Knights beat Colorado by only one point on Jan. 8 and are currently riding a three-game slide. If the Buffs can’t beat UCF, their remaining slate features Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Tech and TCU.

According to College Sports Wire’s Patrick Conn, the 2013-14 TCU Horned Frogs and 2020-21 Iowa State Cyclones are the only teams to finish winless in Big 12 play since 2010.

Colorado will host the No. 5 Houston Cougars on Saturday at 2 p.m. MT (ESPN+).
