What Indiana coach Mike Woodson said after Wisconsin’s decisive win over the Hoosiers

Indiana head coach Mike Woodson began his press conference after his team’s 76-64 loss to Wisconsin with a clear message.

“Right now, we’re not tough,” Woodson began. “We’re just not a tough team right now. We’re not. Mentally, we’re not tough.”

The comments follow a game that saw Wisconsin get off to a decisive 19-2 advantage as soon as the ball was tipped. As a result, Indiana never held a lead. The Hoosiers trailed by double digits from the 16:37 mark in the first half through the remainder of the contest — more than 35 minutes of game action. Wisconsin dominated the matchup from start to finish.

The result continues Indiana’s midseason free-fall, as it has now lost four straight and six of seven. That stretch has sent the team down to 11th in the Big Ten standings and outside the projected NCAA Tournament field. The trajectory is a major disappointment after the Hoosiers entered the season as a popular pick to contend for the conference crown.

Wisconsin, meanwhile, further bolsters its growing resume with the decisive victory. The Badgers (18-5 overall, 8-4 in Big Ten play) are now tied for fourth place in the conference, just two games back of first-place Purdue. It will look to rise even further with wins in upcoming road games at Iowa and Purdue.
