Where Vanderbilt basketball ranks in latest March Madness bracketology after Oklahoma loss

Vanderbilt basketball is still projected in the NCAA tournament, but its spot has become more precarious after a road loss to Oklahoma.

The Commodores (16-5, 4-4 SEC) lost, 97-67, in Norman and will travel to Florida on Tuesday.

Projection systems are split on Vanderbilt’s chances of receiving a bid. As of Tuesday morning, Torvik gave the Commodores a 52.4% chance of making the tournament, but Team Rankings gives them just a 43% chance and ESPN is at an 18% chance.

USA TODAY: No. 10 seed, facing No. 7 seed Clemson in Milwaukee

On3: No. 10 seed, last four byes, facing No. 7 seed St. Mary’s in Milwaukee

On the plus side, Vanderbilt has two marquee wins, against Tennessee and Kentucky, that should continue to age well. The Commodores’ metrics are fine but have slipped a bit over the past week, ranking No. 43 in the NET, No. 50 in KenPom and No. 43 in Torvik. They are a perfect 11-0 in Quad 3 and Quad 4 games.

One negative aspect of Vanderbilt’s resume is that the Commodores played one of the easiest non-conference schedules among power-conference teams. They also lack even a single win away from home against a projected NCAA Tournament team.
