Former Pearl-Cohn and Tennessee Vols basketball star Ron Slay was announced Monday as a member of the 2025 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame class.
Slay, who serves as an analyst on SEC Network and is co-host of the “3HL” afternoon sports talk show on WGFX-FM, was surprised with the announcement by family and co-workers while on the air at the radio station.
“Ron Slay’s passion for the game of basketball and his dedication to excellence made him one of the most exciting players to ever wear the Tennessee orange,” Brad Willis, executive director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, said in a statement. “His leadership on and off the court, as well as his contributions to the sport in Tennessee, make him a deserving member of the hall of fame.”
Others in the 2025 class include: Chris Woodruff, Deon Grant, Doug Mathews, Derrick Mason, Stephen Gostkowski, Larry Kenon, Priscilla Gary Sweeney, the late Ronnie Robinson, the late Phillip Clark, Tony Allen, Elston Turner, George Pitts and Bob Brown. The full class will be released in the coming weeks.
Slay was an all-state performer and Mr. Basketball runner-up at Pearl-Cohn before transferring to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia for his senior season in 1998-99. The Tennessean named Slay to its All-Decade 1990s boys basketball team in 2024.

At Tennessee, Slay was a fan favorite and the 2003 SEC player of the year after averaging 21.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
