Where Wisconsin basketball ranks in AP Poll Top 25 following win over Northwestern

[ad_1]

Wisconsin basketball dropped four spots to No. 21 in the latest AP Poll on Monday. The move follows a 1-1 week, both games coming against tough road opponents.

The Badgers began with a loss to Maryland, now the No. 18 team in both the AP Poll and KenPom. At the time, the loss was Wisconsin’s second in three games, further halting its momentum after beginning the year on a seven-game winning streak. The Badgers quickly responded, however, with a come-from-behind win over Northwestern on Saturday.

Wisconsin’s updated AP ranking reflects its standing in most rating metrics. The team is currently No. 14 in KenPom, No. 23 in the ESPN BPI and No. 16 in the NCAA NET. It boasts an impressive six Quad 1 wins on the season, leading a resume strong enough for a No. 4 or No. 5 seed in early NCAA Tournament bracket projections.

The Badgers are now one of six Big Ten teams in the AP Top 25. They sit behind Purdue (No. 7), Michigan State (No. 9) and Maryland (No. 18), though ahead of Illinois (No. 23) and Michigan (No. 24). Big Ten teams in the ‘receiving votes’ section are Oregon (39 votes) and UCLA (26).

A notable addition to the AP Poll is Arizona, which has gone on a recent tear with consecutive wins over Oklahoma State, Colorado, Iowa State and Arizona State. The team’s rise helps Wisconsin’s resume, as the Badgers defeated the Wildcats 103-88 in mid-November.

Wisconsin proceeds with upcoming games against Indiana and Iowa before a gauntlet stretch against No. 7 Purdue, No. 23 Illinois, Oregon, Washington and No. 9 Michigan State. The Badgers could elevate further toward the top of the Big Ten standings and national rankings with a stretch of decisive victories.
