Wisconsin forward Carter Gilmore now tied with Kansas guard AJ Storr in major statistic

Courtesy of a career performance from forward Carter Gilmore, Wisconsin basketball defeated Northwestern 75-69 in Evanston, Illinois, on Saturday afternoon.

Gilmore accounted for just 2.9 points in just under 17 minutes of action per game entering the matchup. On Saturday, the fifth-year Badger dropped 15 points and team-high seven rebounds in 24 minutes. Without his second half heroics, the Badgers may not have prevailed in what became a tough road test. John Tonje pulled the majority of the scoring weight with an efficient 27 points. But Gilmore’s 15 tallies in the closing stanza ultimately bridged the gap between victory and defeat for UW.

In the effort, the Hartland, Wisconsin, native nailed three three-point jumpers. He’s now up to 12 three-point makes this season (12-of-30), tied for sixth-most on the team with Steven Crowl and Xavier Amos.

Shockingly, Gilmore has now also tied former Wisconsin transfer A.J. Storr in the category. The Kansas Jayhawk, who has witnessed his statistical output drop dramatically this season, is just 12-of-46 from deep as of Feb. 1.

While Storr certainly played a pivotal role for Wisconsin’s offensive unit a season ago, the Badgers look much better without him in the fold. Wisconsin currently averages 81.5 points and 15 assists per game, on pace for its best offensive season since its 2013-15 Final Four runs under program legend Bo Ryan.

Storr plays 17.4 minutes per game off the bench for Kansas. He averages just 6.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and one assist in that time, on 39.1% shooting, 26.1% from deep and 65.5% from the foul line. Gilmore, meanwhile, has emerged as a key role player for the Badgers. He plays hard, scores when absolutely needed and provides juice off the bench. After Saturday, he also now makes three-point looks.

Wisconsin is back in action on Feb. 4 against the Indiana Hoosiers at the Kohl Center….
