There have been some highly anticipated homecomings in college basketball of coaches returning to their old stomping grounds over the years.
Some that might come to mind are former Louisville coach Rick Pitino returning to Kentucky, former Texas coach Chris Beard returning to Texas Tech, or Ed Cooley returning to Providence with Georgetown.
But the homecoming that will take place Saturday inside Rupp Arena is one like no other: John Calipari and Kentucky.

For the first time since abruptly packing up and leaving for Arkansas in April, Calipari makes his highly anticipated return to Lexington and Rupp Arena, as the Razorbacks take on No. 12 Kentucky at 9 p.m. ET.
Over the course of his 15 seasons at Kentucky, the Basketball Hall of Fame coach helped the Wildcats retain its status as one of the top “blue blood” programs in college basketball, highlighted the 2012 NCAA Tournament title, the program’s first since the 1997-98 season. He also led six SEC Tournament championships and four Final Four appearances in his first six seasons.
With Calipari returning to Rupp, here’s what you need to know about his record and accomplishments at Kentucky:
John Calipari record at Kentucky
Overall record: 410-123
SEC record: 198-65
Over his 15 seasons in Lexington, Calipari posted an overall record of 410-123 (76.9 winning percentage) and a 198-65 record (75.2%) in SEC play.
Calipari’s best season at Kentucky came during the 2011-12 season, when the Wildcats went 38-2 overall and won the national championship with National Player of the Year Anthony Davis after reaching the Final Four the year prior. Those 38 wins tied the NCAA record for most wins in a season, as noted by Calipari’s profile page at Arkansas.
The Wildcats won six SEC conference championship titles under Calipari: 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. They also won the 2019-20 SEC regular season championship.
