ESPN’s College GameDay makes picks ahead of North Carolina, Duke rivalry

ESPN’s College GameDay couldn’t pass up an opportunity to miss a game in the biggest rivalry known to college basketball as they hosted this morning’s show from Durham, North Carolina. At the end of the two-hour segment, four of the five hosts, excluding Rece Davis, who never makes picks, chose who they think will win and come out on top of today’s college basketball games.

In the UNC/Duke game, Jay Bilas also was negated from picking as well as he will call the game tonight. However, the three other analysts, Jay Williams, Seth Greenberg, and Andraya Carter, took no time all choosing Duke.

The North Carolina basketball team has left Chapel Hill and is now in Durham. A drive of approximately 30 minutes separates the two colleges that provide the greatest rivalry in college basketball history.

The Duke Blue Devils have the edge in today’s game, going in as the largest favorites in this rivalry game since 2010 as 13.5-point favorites. However, North Carolina nor this rivalry in general has ever been shy of upsets. Most recently, UNC upset Duke at home in Mike Krzyzewski’s last home game in Durham.

This game means more for the Tar Heels, as they are barely holding on to NCAA Tournament hopes. In the lastest projections, they are one of the last four teams in the Field of 68. An upset here would mean more than the rivalry, it would be the biggest quad-one win for the team this season.
