Louisville basketball just capped off its first undefeated January since 2009, when it earned the NCAA Tournament’s top overall seed.

If Pat Kelsey’s No. 22 Cardinals (16-5, 9-1 ACC) can notch their 11th consecutive win this weekend, it’ll be the program’s longest streak since an 11-0 start to the 2014-15 season; when, as a No. 4 seed, it reached the Elite Eight.

That’s some good company.

“We’re just clicking,” Kelsey said after U of L ran away with a 72-59 victory over Wake Forest on Tuesday night at the KFC Yum! Center — a game it controlled for all but 2 minutes, 35 seconds and by as many as 29 points, against a team that was considered among the next four out of March Madness in the eyes of ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.

“You feel it; we have a lot of momentum, playing well together.”

As of Wednesday, the Cards ranked 17th in Wins Above Bubble (3.14); which reflects how much better a team is than those teetering between making and missing the NCAA Tournament cut.

Going off BartTorvik.com’s projections Wednesday, U of L had defeated only four teams that were in the field of 68: West Virginia, a No. 9 seed; North Carolina, a No. 11 seed; Clemson, a No. 8 seed; and Pittsburgh, a No. 11 seed. SMU (27.3%) was the only other squad it has beaten with more than a 10% chance of reaching March Madness. Indiana’s has slipped to 4.7%.
