BOCA RATON — KyKy Tandy scored a season-high 26 points to help Florida Atlantic cruise to a 94-74 victory over Texas-San Antonio in an American Athletic Conference game on Wednesday night.

While Tandy was knocking down 8 of his 10 three-pointers, Kaleb Glenn added 17 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. Matas Vokietaitis and Ken Evans Jr. each had 12 points, and Baba Miller had a 10-point, 11-assist double-double for the Owls (11-10, 4-4). Damari Monsanto led the scoring for UTSA (9-11, 3-5) with 21 points.

“I think we’re going to celebrate until midnight,” FAU head coach John Jakus said after the win.

FAU never trailed and will look to make it back-to-back victories on Sunday when the Owls host in-state rival South Florida (11-10, 4-4 AAC).

FAU’s Kyle Tandy connected on 8 of 10 three-pointers during Wednesday night’s win over USTA in Boca Raton.

The transfer from Jacksonville State had his best game in an FAU uniform on Wednesday, ushering in his second 20-point game of the season on the heels of a career-high 8 three-pointers.

“I just wanted to be aggressive,” Tandy said. “I’ve been putting the work in, and have just been trusting my work. Tonight, you see it, so I’m just blessed I had a game like that and we got the win.”

Tandy would catch fire in the second half, scoring 15 of his 26 points on a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc.

“My coaches and my teammates believe in me,” Tandy said. “They wanted me to shoot and I shot it.”

Jakus is hopeful that Wednesday’s performance is what Tandy needed in order to find consistency from three-point range.

“I always felt like [Tandy], by the end of the year, would get to 40% (from 3-point range),” Jakus said. “It’s taken him a minute, and I think he wanted to do it all in one day. So, God bless…
