Texas Tech basketball hosts TCU: Scouting report, predictions for Big 12 game

The rest of the country has started to take notice of the Texas Tech basketball team, which puts the Red Raiders in a potentially dangerous situation on Wednesday.

Coming to town is a TCU (10-9, 3-5) team that got blasted by UCF 85-58 on Saturday, has lost three of its last four and just 1-4 on the road this season. Meanwhile, the Red Raiders (15-4, 6-2) are ranked in both national polls for the first time this season, riding a four-game winning streak and appear to have settled into the groove Grant McCasland was hoping would come around at some point.

KenPom has Texas Tech winning by a 15-point margin and the Red Raiders have a road date with Top 5-ranked Houston on Saturday. McCasland is always talking never looking ahead of who’s in front of you. This game, though, would be the kind the Red Raiders let their guard down a bit — similar to how they took their foot off the gas after building an 18-point lead against Oklahoma State.

It’s fair to wonder if TCU has Texas Tech’s undivided attention. It’s also fair to ask if TCU has a team capable of winning in United Supermarkets Arena this season.

Scouting Texas Tech basketball’s opponent: TCU Horned Frogs

This will be the first of two meetings between the Red Raiders and Horned Frogs. Texas Tech is set to return the favor with a trip to Fort Worth on Feb. 18.

TCU has had an interesting year, losing Frankie Collins for the season in early December. Collins was TCU’s leading scorer at the time of his injury. In his absence, Noah Reynolds (12.3 points per game) has taken over, producing eight straight games with 12 or more points. He and Vasean Allette (11.8 points) are the only active Horned Frogs who average double-digit scoring numbers.

One thing to watch against TCU is the 3-point line. Texas Tech faced a similarly-matched opponent last week in Cincinnati, which was awful at making 3s and decent at defending the perimeter. For example:…
