Mississippi State basketball split its two games last week and it didn’t affect this week’s NCAA tournament projections.

The No. 13 Bulldogs (16-4, 4-3 SEC) lost at Tennessee last Tuesday but defeated South Carolina in overtime on Saturday.

MSU hosts No. 4 Alabama (17-3, 6-1) on Wednesday (8 p.m., SEC Network) then No. 21 Missouri (16-4, 5-2) on Saturday (noon, SEC Network).

Here’s a look at where Mississippi State stands in this week’s NCAA tournament projections.

Mississippi State basketball NCAA tournament projections

CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm kept Mississippi State as a No. 4 seed. He has it matched up against No. 13 Northern Colorado in Seattle. The winner would play either No. 5 Louisville or No. 12 Samford.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi also didn’t move MSU off as a No. 4 seed. He projects the Bulldogs to play No. 13 Akron, also in Seattle. The winner would play either No. 5 Michigan or No. 12 Yale.

Mississippi State basketball’s NCAA tournament resume

Mississippi State’s NCAA NET ranking slipped to No. 20 after the Tennessee loss and also fell to No. 21 despite the win at South Carolina. It’s the first time MSU’s NET has been at 20 or greater since Dec. 20.

The Bulldogs are 4-3 in Quad 1 with wins against Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Memphis and SMU. The games this week against Alabama and Missouri are both Quad 1.

MSU is 12-1 in Quads 2-4 with the only loss being to Butler on a neutral court.

Mississippi State basketball’s NCAA tournament history under Chris Jans

The Bulldogs have made the NCAA tournament twice in coach Chris Jans’ two seasons but haven’t won a game.

In 2023, they were in the First Four and lost to Pitt by one point. Last season, No. 8 seed MSU lost by 18 to No. 9 Michigan State in the first round.

Mississippi State last won an NCAA tournament game in 2008, a first-round win against Oregon. It has not advanced past the round of 32 since 1996.
