Michigan State basketball continues its ascent in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
The Spartans moved up one spot to No. 7 when the poll was released Monday afternoon. In its only game last week, MSU (17-2, 8-0 Big Ten) won its 12th straight with an 81-74 victory Saturday over Rutgers at Madison Square Garden in New York. MSU is also No. 7 in the Associated Press Poll.
MSU hosts Minnesota on Tuesday night at Breslin Center (8 p.m., Peacock), then takes a two-game, five-day trip to Los Angeles for a pair of games with two conference newcomers.
Jaden Akins reacts with Tre Holloman of the Michigan State Spartans during the second half against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025 in New York.
Coach Tom Izzo now has 351 conference victories, needing three more to surpass Indiana legend Bob Knight’s record of 353 Big Ten wins. If the Spartans beat the Golden Gophers, Izzo could tie Knight with a victory Saturday at USC (4:30 p.m.) and potentially could break the record at UCLA on Feb. 4 (10 p.m.).
THE BIG PICTURE: Tom Izzo doesn’t want Michigan State to get ‘fat and sassy’ with win streak
None of MSU’s next three games will be televised but instead will be streamed on NBC’s Peacock app.
