What a shot.
Sophomore guard Mya Edwards drilled a half-court shot at the buzzer to help Eureka defeat Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 42-41 in the championship game of the 113th Heart of Illinois Girls Basketball Tournament on Saturday.
Edwards took a pass from Sophia Musselman, dribbled once, launched the shot and swished it just before the timeline at Illinois Wesleyan’s Shirk Center. After releasing the ball, she fell forward onto the floor and stood just as her teammates arrived to celebrate.

The victory gave No. 4-seed Eureka (19-6) its eighth win a row, first tournament title since 2022 and sixth crown since 2017.
Edwards had the flu and missed Thursday’s semifinal upset win over top-seed Deer Creek-Mackinaw. She finished with 11 points, while Gaba Musselman and Skylar Knapp each scored 12. Lily Sizemore scored a game-high 19 for third-seeded GCMS.
