Texas vs Texas A&M: Preview, prediction, how to watch men’s basketball game

Just three weeks after a disappointing SEC debut at Texas A&M, Texas basketball will try and garner some vengeance against its bitter in-state rival Saturday at Moody Center.

The Longhorns (13-6, 2-4 SEC) picked up their first win over a ranked opponent with a hard-fought 61-53 win Tuesday over No. 24 Missouri. But No. 13 Texas A&M (15-4, 4-2) will offer a more stern test. In their 80-60 win Jan. 4 over Texas in College Station, the Aggies pounded UT on the glass, 39-27, and rode a rabid crowd in a dominant second half.

Texas coach Rodney Terry said the Longhorn fans will need to match that energy Saturday.

“They (the Texas players) felt that rivalry the minute we walked in that building,” Terry said, referring to Texas A&M’s Reed Arena. “They had a great crowd, great atmosphere, and a great home court that day. I’m hoping that we have a great home court ourselves in terms of Longhorn Nation and our student group.

“We don’t probably win that (Missouri) game if we don’t have the energy in that building from our student body. They are difference makers; they will our teams to win. So, it does make a difference in terms of the atmosphere you have. Every atmosphere we go into in this league has been sold out. We haven’t gone to a building that hasn’t been sold out and the student section hasn’t been full. It makes a difference when you play in those kind of environments.”
