The symptoms are all too familiar.
What Kansas State’s basketball team needs to find is solutions.
Once again, the Wildcats were in position to pull an upset Wednesday, only to falter down the stretch in a 70-62 loss at Baylor. It was K-State’s sixth straight loss and 15th in a row on the road.
This time, the Wildcats (7-11, 1-6 Big 12) had a 12-point lead early in the second half, only to see Baylor (12-6, 4-3) storm back to dominate at crunch time. While K-State didn’t have a field goal over the final 3 minutes, 25 seconds and missed its last six shots, the Bears were 7-for-7 to finish the game, plus made 15 of 19 second-half free throws.
“We’ve just got to figure out how to get stops down the stretch,” K-State coach Jerome Tang said. “And so, that’s for us as a staff to look at and see what we could have done differently. And then be able to figure out how to draw more fouls and not foul as much and put them on the line as much.”

Indeed, Baylor outscored the Wildcats, 17-5, from the foul line. The biggest issue was containing Bears freshman guard VJ Edgecombe, who scored a career-high 30 points, including 11 of 12 free throws.
“They were able to get in transition (in the second half),” said K-State guard Brendan Hausen, who scored 12 points on four 3-pointers and helped keep the Wildcats in the game. “Edgecombe is an elite athlete. We had a few breakdowns where we maybe stopped the ball and didn’t have any background help or we broke down and had two try to take the ball, and there was just miscommunication.
“He got loose, and ultimately that kind of changed the game.”
