Florida basketball’s NCAA Tournament resume for March Madness: Jan. 21

Florida basketball still finds itself in strong position to earn a high seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The No. 6 Florida Gators (16-2, 3-2 SEC) split a two-game homestand last week, falling to No. 24 Missouri 83-82 before beating Texas 84-60 on Saturday.

The SEC grind will continue this week, as Florida will play Wednesday night at South Carolina (7 p.m., SEC Network) before returning home Saturday to play Georgia (3:30 p.m., SEC Network).

Florida coach Todd Golden said the Gators can’t afford to let up in league play, regardless of whether an opponent is ranked or not.

“That was lesson we learned last Tuesday against Missouri,” Golden said. “They were a very, very good team that wasn’t ranked at the time, but has since been ranked and is playing like one of the top 25 teams in the country.”

Missouri 83, No. 4 Florida 82: Florida had its 16-game home win streak snapped as UF couldn’t overcome a 16-point halftime deficit. Walter Clayton Jr. led UF with 28 points, but Florida ended up being too shaky with the basketball, as Missouri scored 18 points off 13 UF turnovers.

No. 4 Florida 84, Texas 60: Florida bounced back from its Missouri loss with a lopsided win over Longhorns. Alijah Martin led four UF scorers in double figures with 22 points, while sophomore forward Alex Condon posted his fourth double-double of the season (11 points, 12 rebounds). Up 61-54, Florida closed the game with a 23-6 run over the final 8:24.
