UCF Knights basketball: 5 trends at quarter mark of Big 12 Conference schedule

UCF tipped off after dark Tuesday and treated those who stayed up late on the east coast to an important, entertaining victory over Arizona State, headlined by a historic offensive performance.

Junior Keyshawn Hall, the Knights’ 6-foot-7, 235-pound “big guard,” scored a career-high 40 points with seven rebounds and six assists as the team held on for a 95-89 win to salvage a split in the Grand Canyon State. Hall went 13 of 18 from the field and 10 for 10 at the free-throw line in becoming just the third player in the school’s Division I history to score 40 in a single game, and the second in Big 12 history to post a 40-5-5 stat line in a regulation victory.

Knights coach Johnny Dawkins called it a “special night by a special player” in his postgame radio interview with UCF play-by-play broadcaster Marc Daniels.

“He scores in so many different ways,” Dawkins said. “He’s a 3-point shooter. He can knock them down. He can mid-range game. He has that. He can finish with either hand at the basket. He can post.

“So, he’s a really, really difficult guy to defend, but tonight, I think he showed his entire arsenal, and I’m glad he’s on our team.”

Having reached the quarter-pole of the Big 12 schedule, here are five noticeable trends the Knights have displayed in conference play.
