Two Iowa State men’s basketball players grace digital cover of SLAM magazine

Two Iowa State basketball players are the latest to grace the cover of one of the sport’s most influential magazines.

Curtis Jones and Keshon Gilbert are featured on the latest digital cover of SLAM magazine’s “SLAMU.” Founded in 1994 by Dennis Page, SLAM is a basketball and pop culture publication that has featured and covered stories on more than a hundred basketball hall of famers, including Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan.

Women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark was SLAM’s cover athlete in March 2024 amid Iowa’s run through the NCAA tournament.

The digital edition featuring Jones and Gilbert marks just the second-ever SLAMU digital cover. The first, released in November, featured six players from the Arizona Wildcats basketball team on the cover.

Jones and Gilbert have played key roles on a Cyclones squad that has won 11 straight games en route to being ranked the No. 2 team in the nation. Iowa State is No. 2 in the Associated Press and USA TODAY Sports Coaches polls, the Cyclones’ highest ranking ever.

Jones leads Iowa State in points per game, averaging 17.3 while also putting up 3.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per contest. The 6-foot-4-inch senior recorded a season-high 26 points in an overtime win against Texas Tech on Jan. 11. Second on the team in scoring is his covermate Gilbert, who is putting up 16.1 points, 4.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game in his second season with the Cyclones after transferring from UNLV.
