Butler fans will have to wait another season to see key offseason addition Jamie Kaiser Jr. suit up for the Bulldogs (7-10, 0-6).

The Maryland transfer and former Top-100 recruit will redshirt this season as he recovers from preseason ankle surgery. Kaiser has returned to practice, but sitting out this season and preserving the year of eligibility was deemed the best plan of action for the sophomore guard 17 games into the 2024-25 season.

“It wouldn’t be fair to him to bring him back now,” Butler coach Thad Matta said. “He has been doing more, and it’s been great to see him out there.”

Kaiser would have provided a big boost to the Butler backcourt this season. The Virginia native played his final high school season at powerhouse IMG Academy. He earned the reputation of being a sharpshooter from deep but struggled in his lone season at Maryland.

In 33 games, five starts, Kaiser averaged 4.4 points and two rebounds per game with the Terrapins. He shot just 26.5% from 3 and 77.8% from the free throw line. Kaiser joins freshman forward Colt Langdon as Bulldogs redshirting this season.

When Kaiser does debut, he’ll likely be taking the floor with some talented freshmen. Monday, Butler gained a commitment from four-star forward Efeosa Oliogu. The native Canadian is the third four-star prospect to pledge to Butler alongside Lawrence North guard Azavier “Stink” Robinson and Iowa City forward Jack McCaffery. Butler’s 2025 class is currently ranked 14th in the nation by 247Sports.
