CINCINNATI — AJ Storr looked more like himself Saturday, during Kansas basketball’s 54-40 win on the road against Cincinnati.
With about six and a half minutes left in the first half Storr hit a turnaround jumper, after moving well without the ball, catching it inside and making a nice move. With less than a minute left before halftime, the guard stayed engaged after missing a 3-pointer, later got the ball again, attacked the basket and got to the free-throw line. On the other end during the first half, he acquitted himself well there, too.
After struggling days earlier in a home win against Arizona State, when he only played about three minutes total, he showed why that ASU game shouldn’t be viewed as a snapshot of what his role should be. That’s not to say he was perfect in close to 10 minutes of total game time against UC, but he was far more a part of this win because of his effort and execution. And as he continues to gain comfort with this team, in a process that’s had its ups and downs this season, the Jayhawks will need more of that side of Storr to reach their desired goals in Big 12 play.

“I’m just staying positive through it all, just really trying to get better every day, stick with my team through the ups and downs of everything,” Storr recalled Saturday about his first-half play in Cincinnati. “Just go and practice, positive mindset, positive attitude and just continue to win.”
Moving forward Storr, who had four points and an assist against Cincinnati, said he needs to keep bringing his energy off the bench and try to be a spark for his team. He wants to be aggressive, get downhill and get fouled on offense, while also affecting the game on defense. Consistently playing like that for Kansas (12-3, 3-1 in Big 12), which was ranked No. 12 when it beat UC, will only make the Jayhawks tougher to beat.
Storr hasn’t always sustained that type of play…
