Florida basketball’s NCAA Tournament resume for March Madness: Jan. 12

Florida basketball continued its strong start to the season with back-to-back wins over No. 1 Tennessee and Arkansas this past week.

As a result, the Florida Gators (15-1, 2-1 SEC) remain in strong position for a high seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

UF moved up four spots to No. 4 in this week’s USA Today men’s college basketball poll and will start a two-game homestand on Tuesday against Missouri (9 p.m., ESPU). After that, Florida faces Texas on Saturday (ESPN/2, 2 or 4 p.m.).

Florida has maintained a top 10 national ranking for six straight weeks and has stayed in the poll since starting the preseason at No. 21.

“The better you get, the harder it is,” Florida basketball coach Todd Golden said. “And, you know, so we’re fighting against human nature. We’re fighting against handling success and making sure that we approach our practices and our prep the same way we did before we received these types of rankings.”

No. 8 Florida 73, No. 1 Tennessee 43: The Gators picked up a huge statement win, beating a No. 1 team for just the third time in school history and first time in the regular season. UF’s 30-point margin of victory was the most lopsided against a No. 1 opponent since UCLA beat No. 1 Houston 101-69 in the 1968 Final Four.

No. 8 Florida 71, Arkansas 63: Florida rallied back from down seven points in the first half to take a 28-25 lead into halftime against the Razorbacks and maintained it for the first of the game. Grad transfer guard Alijah Martin led four UF scorers in double figures with 14 points, while sophomore forward Alex Condon added 12 points and 10 rebounds for his second straight double double.
