The Alabama men’s basketball team coming to Reed Arena this weekend means there’s a chance for Texas A&M to capture a statement win in a game and environment those in College Station have never seen before.

For the first time in program history, the Texas A&M basketball team is set to host a top-10 matchup Saturday.

A&M (13-2, 2-0) is fresh off of a thrilling win over No. 16 Oklahoma on Wednesday. The Aggies sit ninth in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and 10th in the AP Poll, released Sunday.

Still, there’s a lot of work to do between now and March, and the next challenge will be daunting. Saturday night’s nationally televised game will trim either A&M or No. 5 Alabama (13-2, 2-0) from the six SEC teams perfect in conference play.

Texas A&M has won nine games in a row, and Alabama has won seven in a row following a 20-point victory over South Carolina.

Senior guard Mark Sears paces Alabama’s offense with 18.5 points per game on 41.5% shooting from the field and 37.5% shooting from 3-point range. The former Ohio star led the Tide last season as well with 21.5 points per game. Grant Nelson, a senior forward, is second on the team in points per game (12.6) and first in rebounds per game (8.7).

At 90.9 points per game, Alabama has the highest-scoring offense in the country. It’s top 10 in free-throw attempts (26.7) and 3-point attempts per game (31.6), displaying a diverse, deep attack.
