Friday’s prep highlights: Maroons shine on snowy night

Jan. 11—CHAMPAIGN — Champaign Central’s boys’ basketball team (9-6) was a 56-42 winner against Peoria Notre Dame in a Big 12 Conference game at Combes Gym, with Chris Bush scoring 20 points and snagging 11 rebounds to help the winning cause. Cayden Love chipped in 14 points and Aidyn Beck added eight rebounds to round out the Maroons’ effort.

CLINTON — Seventeen points from Carly Anderson and 16 points from Clara Dempsey helped Clinton’s girls’ basketball team bottle up Heyworth in a 45-31 nonconference decision, with the host Maroons (14-5) draining 11 three-pointers en route to a comfortable win.

FARMER CITY — Isaac Price dropped in 27 points, Corbin Colbert added eight points and Wesley Clark chipped in seven points to key Blue Ridge’s boys’ basketball team (8-9) to a 53-48 home win over Unity Christian in Lincoln Prairie Conference play.

MAROA — Unity’s boys’ basketball team (9-6) scored a 62-41 nonconference victory over Maroa-Forsyth thanks to 12 points from Mason O’Neill, 10 points from Coleton Langendorf and nine points apiece from Tre Hoggard and Brady Parr.

PAXTON — Rantoul’s boys’ basketball team went on the road and collected a 50-41 Illini Prairie Conference win over Paxton-Buckley-Loda, with D.J. Davis’ 18-point effort leading the way for the Eagles (8-8). The Panthers (6-8) were led by 18 points from Tyler Cole.

URBANA — Fisher’s boys’ basketball team (8-6) cruised past Uni High (1-12) in a 55-30 decision that was paced by 19 points, eight steals and seven rebounds from Ryan Hopkins, 18 points from Cam Grant and six points from Isaac Dabney.
