Jan. 10—WILLMAR — Some hot shooting in the second half helped the Detroit Lakes boys basketball team net a come-from-behind win over Willmar on Friday night.
Down by as much as 14 points in the second half, the Lakers shot 68.1% from the field over the final 18 minutes to secure an 84-79 Central Lakes Conference win over the Cardinals at the Big Red Gym.
Tyler Bye put up 32 points for Detroit Lakes. He was 12 of 16 from the field, including 7 of 10 from 3-point range. Damarion Moss had 18 points, six assists and five steals and Dawson Von Ruden had 11 points and three blocks.
Willmar took the loss despite a game-high 36 points from Avery Christensen. The 6-foot-3 junior made 14 of 23 shots (60.9%) and was 6 of 10 from 3-point range. He also had four assists and a pair of steals. Freshman Cooper Schnichels added 12 points and Hudson Sjoberg tallied nine points and eight rebounds.
The Cardinals host St. Cloud Apollo for a CLC game at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in Willmar.
Cody Stapel had 27 points and eight rebounds and Hunter Bush added 14 points in Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted’s victory over New London-Spicer at New London.
Beckett Newman and Gavin Vick each had 10 points for NLS. Kaden Toutges added seven points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats.
NLS hosts Litchfield for a Wright County Conference game at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at New London.
Central Minnesota Christian used a huge second half to roll past Renville County West at Renville.
CMCS led 21-19 at halftime, then out-scored the Jaguars 56-23 in the final 18 minutes.
Asher Wieberdink led the way for the Bluejays with 25 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots. Drew Duininck had 14 points and five rebounds and Micah Asake added 11 points for CMCS.
Ryan Schrupp had 19 points, five rebounds and four steals for RCW.The Bluejays host Minneota for a Camden Conference game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Prinsburg. RCW plays a Camden Conference game against Dwason-Boyd at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dawson.
