Bill Self hasn’t forgotten last season’s Big 12 tournament loss but isn’t dwelling on it
If anyone has forgotten, Cincinnati is the team that eliminated Kansas from the Big 12 tournament last season. The Bearcats routed the Jayhawks, winning 72-52 before coach Bill Self’s squad even had the chance to reach the quarterfinals. But Self made sure to point out Wednesday that, during that game last season, even though Cincinnati crushed his team KU was also without Hunter Dickinson and Kevin McCullar Jr.
Looking ahead to this upcoming game, Self described the Bearcats as a quality team. He pointed out that, while Cincinnati isn’t ranked right now, it’s not as if it’s that long ago that the Bearcats found themselves well within the top 25. He highlighted how close Cincinnati’s loss on the road at Kansas State was, as well as the loss at home against Arizona, and mentioned Kansas will need to play with the energy it did the past two games to have a chance.
Self scouts this year’s Cincinnati’s team
Self described Cincinnati as an all-around, good basketball team. He likes the Bearcats’ personnel, and mentioned junior guard Dan Skillings Jr. is someone who thrived against Kansas last season — for example, scoring 25 in the Big 12 tournament win Cincinnati enjoyed. Skillings can score at all three levels.
Self’s praise for Cincinnati…
