Texas vs Auburn: Preview, prediction, how to watch men’s basketball game

After a disheartening loss to rival Texas A&M in its SEC opener Saturday, Texas basketball (11-3, 0-1 SEC) gets a chance to quickly make amends against No. 2 Auburn (8 p.m. Tuesday, ESPN2).

The Longhorns flashed their potential in the first half against the No. 9 Aggies before A&M muscled its way to an 80-60 win. The two teams were tied 37-37 after a scintillating first half, but Texas A&M scored 48 points in the paint and added 24 from the free-throw line while pounding Texas inside.

Auburn (13-1, 1-0) will try and do the same with a lineup that showcases 6-foot-10, 240-pound Johni Broome (18.6 points, 11.1 rebounds a game) and includes 6-11, 255-pound Dylan Cardwell. After Saturday’s loss in College Station, Texas coach Rodney Terry spoke about “what’s in the chest” mattering more than size when it comes to battling in the paint. Texas will try and prove its coach right against Auburn.

Tre Johnson hoping to bounce back vs. Auburn

Following a tough game against Texas A&M, Texas freshman Tre Johnson fell to second in the SEC in scoring with 19 points a game, just behind Tennessee’s Chaz Lanier (20.3 points a game). A 6-foot-6 guard, Johnson had his worst shooting game of the season while scoring 11 points on 2-of-13 shooting from the floor against the Aggies. But his teammates aren’t worried about the five-star recruit.

“Tre has been around the block,” senior Kadin Shedrick said. “He’s played a lot of high-level games throughout high school, and he’s had a few high-level games here in college already. I just let him know after the game, ‘You’re good, we’re all good.’ I trust he’s…
