UNC basketball’s Seth Trimble has missed three straight games with what the Tar Heels have described as an upper-body injury.

Head coach Hubert Davis provided an update on Trimble’s status on Monday morning during the ACC men’s basketball coaches Zoom teleconference.

“He practiced (Sunday) … did one full-contact drill. … I’d have more of an update after practice (Monday),” Davis said.

Trimble was injured during a practice on Dec. 28 and has been sidelined for games against Campbell, Louisville and Notre Dame.

The Tar Heels (9-6, 2-1 ACC) host SMU (11-3, 2-1) on Tuesday (9 p.m., ESPN) at the Smith Center before traveling to rival N.C. State (8-6, 1-2) on Saturday (4 p.m., ACC Network) for a rematch of the 2024 ACC Tournament championship game.

Ian Jackson steps up after Seth Trimble injury

Freshman guard Ian Jackson has slid into the starting lineup to help UNC win two of its three games with Trimble on the sideline. The first freshman in program history to score at least 23 points in four straight games, Jackson has averaged 25.3 points per game on 54.7% shooting in Trimble’s absence. He scored a career-high 27 points in UNC’s win at Notre Dame.

Seth Trimble stats

UNC’s best on-ball defender and most consistent rebounder, Trimble is the Tar Heels’ top two-way player on the roster. Trimble averaged 14.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.7 assists across the first 12 games of the season. He’s also shooting 38.5% from 3-point range. The sooner UNC gets Trimble back, the better.
