After losing its first game of the season at Kentucky over the weekend, Florida basketball dropped three spots to No. 8 in this week’s USA Today men’s college basketball coaches poll on Monday.
The Florida Gators (13-1, 0-1 SEC) will continue a challenging stretch to start conference play when they host No. 1 Tennessee (14-0, 1-0) on Tuesday at the O’Connell Center.
Florida is 2-17 all-time against No. 1 teams and hasn’t beaten a No. 1 opponent since knocking off Ohio State 84-75 in the 2007 NCAA Tournament finals.
The Vols are coming off a 76-52 win over Arkansas in their SEC opener at home, behind 29 points from guard Chaz Lanier.
Florida is 7-0 at home this season and has won 21 of its last 22 games at home dating back to the start of the 2023-24 season.
“Getting Tennessee at home, it’s an awesome opportunity” Florida basketball coach Todd Golden said. “I think our whole program is really excited for it.”
