Colorado State men’s basketball team taken down by New Mexico

[ad_1]

A slow start and big halftime deficit was too much to overcome Saturday for the Colorado State men’s basketball team.

The Rams lost 76-68 to New Mexico at Moby Arena as the Lobos stormed to a 16-point lead after 20 minutes.

CSU (7-6, 1-1 Mountain West) had 11 first-half turnovers and shot just 39% in the first half.

The Rams battled back in the second half and won the final 20 minutes by eight points, but the deficit was too large.

New Mexico (10-3, 2-0 Mountain West) was led by 14 points each from Donovan Dent and Mustapha Amzil. New Mexico was 7-15 (47%) from 3-point range while the Rams woes from deep continued with a 6-23 (26%) performance.

Nique Clifford had 17 points and seven rebounds and Jaylen Crocker-Johnson had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Rams.

Dropping the first league home game wipes out some of the boost from CSU’s road win over Nevada to begin Mountain West play.

CSU next plays at San Jose State at 3 p.m. Dec. 31.
