Memphis basketball lands commitment from junior college guard Felipe Patino

Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway landed a verbal commitment from junior college shooting guard Felipe Patino on Friday.

Patino, a freshman at Eastern Florida State College, made the announcement on social media one week after he received an offer from the Tigers.

Patino becomes the second player committed to Memphis’ 2025 recruiting class, joining guard Daniel Vieira-Tuck.

The 6-4 prospect has appeared in 12 games for EFSC this season and is averaging 11.4 PPG and shooting 51.1% from the field. Patino is also averaging 4.2 rebounds a game and 2.8 assists per game. Perhaps his biggest strength, however, is his 3-point shooting. He is hitting 50% from the 3-point line (38-of-76) this season.

Hardaway has leaned heavily on the transfer portal for the bulk of his roster construction over the past few recruiting cycles. But Patino and Vieira-Tuck represent a slight deviation from that strategy.

Memphis also has several players on the current roster who have eligibility remaining beyond this season, including leading scorer PJ Haggerty, guards Baraka Okojie and Jared Harris, as well as forward Damarien “Dink” Yates.
