Cooper Flagg talks Duke basketball, joining Jon Scheyer and Blue Devils

Duke freshman Cooper Flagg had his first press conference with the Blue Devils during the program’s annual media day at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Duke basketball saw several different defenses against Georgia Tech.

None of them worked as the fifth-ranked Blue Devils blitzed the Yellow Jackets with an efficient offensive onslaught to earn an 82-56 victory on Saturday in Atlanta.

Duke (10-2, 2-0 ACC), which has won its first three road games in a season for the first time since 2020, shot a season-best 56% and had four of its five starters reach double figures against the overmatched Yellow Jackets (5-7, 0-2).

Kon Knueppel had a game-high 18 points in his best performance of the season against a high-major opponent. Khaman Maluach (15 points, 8 rebounds), Cooper Flagg (13 points, 4 rebounds), and Tyrese Proctor (10 points) joined Knueppel with double-digit points.

The Blue Devils don’t play again until New Year’s Eve (4:30 p.m., ACC Network) against Virginia Tech (5-6, 0-1 ACC) at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Commentators won’t be able to refer to Cooper Flagg as a 17-year-old phenom for the rest of the season. Flagg celebrated his 18th birthday at Georgia Tech, scoring 13 points to go with four rebounds and two assists. He’s averaged 19 points in three road games so…
