Big 12 men’s basketball power rankings: Cincinnati proves its fast start is no fluke

Big 12 men’s basketball play is here, just in time for the new year.

And with the calendar turning comes a new-look conference that’s reputation has taken a bit of a beating through non-conference play.

Is the Big 12 the best in the nation anymore? That’s more debatable than ever.

But now is the time to prove it is the best.

From Iowa State to Kansas to Houston and even Cincinnati, the Big 12 still has plenty of might. In fact, the Bearcats’ rise has only beefed up the conference.

Here is a look at this week’s power rankings as the real fun begins:

This week: at Colorado (Monday)

This week: at Oklahoma State (Monday)

What to know: The Cougars’ depth will be tested with conference play opening. Starting forward J’Wan Roberts is banged up. Reserve guard Ramon Walker Jr. is out until late January as well.

This week: at Kansas State (Monday)

What to know: The Bearcats took down Dayton for their first top-25 win this season, showing they are not just beating bad teams. Next up: A trip to Manhattan, Kansas, for the first time since 1967.
