Florida basketball and North Carolina will meet for just the seventh time in program history and first time at the Jumpman Invitational when the two teams square off at the event in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Tuesday night.
The Florida Gators (10-0) are coming off an 83-66 win over Arizona State in Atlanta, Ga., at the Holiday Hoopsgiving on Saturday and are off to their best start of the season since beginning the 2005-06 season 17-0.
Florida is 2-4 all-time against North Carolina. In the last meeting between the two schools, the Tar Heels beat the Gators 75-64 on Nov. 28, 2014, at the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas. UF’s last win against UNC came on April 1, 2000, when the Gators beat the Tar Heels in the 2000 Final Four to advance to the NCAA Finals for the first time in program history.
Four Florida starters are averaging double figures, led by senior point guard Walter Clayton, who ranks fourth in the SEC in scoring (19.1 ppg) and 15th in assists (3.7 apg).
North Carolina is led by senior guard and reigning ACC player of the year R.J. Davis, who is averaging 17.6 ppg and 4.3 apg.
