In a game that featured little to no flow offensively, the No. 12 Oregon men’s basketball team’s defense led the way in a dominant 79-61 win over Stephen F. Austin Sunday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.

The win served as a bounce-back performance for the Ducks (10-1, 1-1 Big Ten) after a buzzer-beating defeat at the hands of UCLA last week.

“We picked it up on defense and that led to a lot of transition points,” Oregon senior Jadrian Tracey said. “Whenever we get our defense going that always sparks us on the offensive end.”

Oregon forward Supreme Cook (7) drives to the basket against Stephen F. Austin forward Nana Antwi-Boasiako (22) during the first half Sunday at Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon got the win, 79-61.

Oregon held the Lumberjacks to 39.7% shooting from the field and forced 22 turnovers, while drawing 25 fouls on offense. The Ducks shot 22 for 32 from the charity stripe and over 50% from the field on offense, but they turned the ball over 19 times.

Brandon Angel led the Ducks with 15 points, with Tracey and Supreme Cook adding 14 apiece off the bench. Nate Bittle contributed 13 points in just 18 minutes while battling foul trouble.

“There was definitely a targeted effort tonight to make sure we started the game with more effort, more activity and playing hard,” Angel said.

By halftime, with the Ducks leading 37-23, both teams combined for 19 turnovers,. But Oregon was holding the Lumberjacks to 25.6% shooting from the field. SFA shot just 3 for 16 from 3-point land in the first half and had just eight second-chance points despite 14 offensive rebounds.
