LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball is no longer the No. 1 team in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after losing a pair of games in recent days.
The now-No. 10 Jayhawks (7-2) lost on the road against Creighton and on the road against Missouri. Each game saw Kansas get off to a slow start, battle back and then ultimately fall well short of what was necessary to win. It’s a week that should serve as a learning lesson for KU as it moves forward with non-conference play.

Next up for Kansas is Dec. 14 game at home against NC State. Non-conference play finishes up Dec. 22 at home against Brown. Following that, Big 12 Conference play begins with a Dec. 31 game at home against West Virginia.
Outside of Kansas, the top 25 also has Big 12 teams with No. 3 Iowa State, No. 13 Houston, No. 23 Cincinnati and No. 25 Baylor. The Jayhawks were replaced at No. 1 overall by a Southeastern Conference team, Tennessee. Elsewhere in the top 5 are No. 2 Auburn, No. 4 Marquette and No. 5 Kentucky.
