Auburn basketball’s first defeat of the season wasn’t enough to sink it in this week’s top-25 rankings.
After losing to then-No. 9 Duke on Wednesday at Cameron Indoor Stadium, the Tigers remained at No. 2 in the latest USA Today Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll. The Blue Devils rose three spots in the rankings. But the Tigers were leap-frogged at the top by an SEC foe, as undefeated Tennessee took the No. 1 spot. Formerly top-ranked Kansas fell to No. 10 after losses to unranked Creighton and Missouri.

Auburn (8-1) also remained at No. 2 in the AP’s Top 25 Poll, with nearly identical changes. It was jumped by Tennessee for the No. 1 spot, Kansas fell to No. 10 and Duke is now ranked No. 4 by the AP.
The Tigers still received first-place votes in both listings, with five first-place tallies from the coaches poll and three from the AP. They also remain a top-two team in several other college basketball rankings. They’re No. 1 in KenPom, No. 2 in NET and No. 3 in T-Rank.
After falling 84-78 to Duke on Wednesday, Auburn returned to Neville Arena for the first time in three weeks and beat Richmond 98-54 on Sunday.
The incoming week looks much less daunting for Auburn than the last, as it’ll play Ohio State on Saturday in Atlanta before hosting Georgia State on Dec. 17. But after those games, it’ll travel to Birmingham to play No. 11 Purdue on Dec. 21.
