The struggles continue for the Hope College men’s basketball team.

The Flying Dutchmen lost two games in Wisconsin this weekend to drop to 3-5, losing four of their past five games – the first season with a losing record through the first eight games since 2017-18.

Hope lost 90-83 on Friday against Wisconsin-Whitewater, then 71-64 to Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday, both on the road and both to quality opponents.

Last year’s team started 4-0 – but then lost to Whitewater and Platteville before putting together an NCAA tournament team.

Hope has struggled to find its rhythm with a new batch of starters plus injuries to starters Marcus Wourman and Parker Hovey. Hovey only missed a couple of games, but Wourman, Hope’s starting point guard, has been out since injuring his ankle in the season opener.

Against Whitewater, Hope trailed by 12 at halftime before exploding for 50 points in the second half, but still came up short.

Hope’s Justice Mims passes the ball on Friday, Nov. 8 at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Justice Mims scored a career-high 22 points and Hovey had a season best 14, along with Gabe Quillan and Josh Decker who each also had 14 points.

Against Platteville, Hope shot nearly 50 percent from the floor, but just 3-for-16 from 3-point range (19%). Meanwhile, Platteville nailed 11 3s.

Quillan had 21 points and Brady Miller had 10.
