High school top performers: Who was the top athlete this week?

The high school winter sports season is now in full swing.

There were plenty of great performances across many sports and schools in the Holland area.

Who had the best performance? Vote for the top athlete of the week. Voting will go until noon Friday each week.

LAST WEEK’S WINNER: Madison Ensing, Zeeland swimming.

Here is a little more about each candidate:

Titus Spencer, Holland Christian basketball

Junior point guard had 31 points in an epic 66-64 battle with South Christian, and also scored 22 in a big win over East Grand Rapids.

Jordyn Klaasen, Zeeland West basketball

The Dux senior poured in 24 points and snagged 11 steals in a season-opening win over West Ottawa.

Hadleigh Hilgert, Holland basketball

Senior guard totaled 15 points in dominant Dutch win over Wyoming Lee.

Mirra Fenlon, Zeeland East basketball

Led the Chix in scoring in two wins, including 17 in a 43-37 win over Allendale on Friday.

Natalia Laskowski, Saugatuck basketball

Guard scored a game-high 25 points in a 68-50 win over Galesburg-Augusta.

Sydni Smith, Black River basketball

Post player poured in 26 points in a dominating win over Delton Kellogg.

Lila Rosema, Fennville basketball

A double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds from Rosema led Fennville to a convincing win over Coloma.

Kaitlyn Geurink, Hamilton basketball

The senior forward put in 23 points, including a stellar 14-for-15 performance from the free-throw line in a battle with Catholic Central.

Jamison Huizenga, Black River basketball

Guard scored 21 points to lead the River Rats to their first win of the season.

Zay Peoples, Fennville basketball

Scored eight points, and hit the two key 3-pointers in a win over Black River to open the season.

Adelynn Nyhof, Holland Christian basketball

Scored 16 points in a two-point win over East Grand Rapids in an epic clash to open the season.

Andreas Valkema, Holland wrestling

Won his match by pin to secure the season-opening win for the Dutch over Coopersville.
